Who We Are

The Visually Impaired Advocates (V.I.A.) embarked on its mission in June 2007.  This organization is designed for blind and visually impaired adults, 18 years of age or older, who may need encouragement and support as they face the challenges of vision loss. Membership is available to all adults who are experiencing blindness or low vision, their friends and family, professionals, and others interested in the field of sight enhancement.

Membership meeting is held once a  quarter.
Date, time, and location will be  announced closer to planned meeting date.

In addition, a weekly support group is open to everyone in an effort to bring together others who are facing similar issues to share experiences, information and advice.

Location:  Metropolitan Multi-Service Center
1475 West Gray; Houston, Texas
Time:  10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Let’s join together to:

  • Share our stories and knowledge of resources
  • Encourage and inspire one another
  • Become educated then educate others
  • Participate in community events, fun and entertainment days
  • Have group outings meetings and conference calls
  • Use your talents and skills
  • Present your concerns and suggestions and join an Action Committee

“The real problem of blindness is not the lack of eyesight. The real problem is the misunderstanding and lack of information which exists. If a blind person has proper training and opportunity, blindness is only a physical nuisance.”
